None of the areas marked as not recommended sit on the classic circuit: Muscat, the Hajar mountains, Nizwa, Jebel Akhdar, the Wahiba Sands and the Sharqiyah coast. Those programmes run as normal, for clients from every country on this page.
Musandam, the Yemen border area, Duqm and Salalah: four ministries mark one or more of these areas as not recommended. For groups from those countries we keep Musandam, the Yemen border area, Duqm and Salalah out of the itinerary or offer an alternative, because travel insurance usually follows the client's own government's advice.
We watch this page ourselves. If a ministry changes its advice while your group is booked, you hear it from us the same day, with the operational consequence spelled out: re-routing, alternative nights, or nothing at all.
The background in 2026.
Oman was drawn into the wider Gulf conflict in 2026. Iranian strikes hit Duqm, Salalah and Sohar in March, and there were further strikes and retaliatory attacks in the region, including Oman, from 8 July. Norway advised against non-essential travel to Oman between 28 February and 28 April 2026 and then withdrew that advice. Several ministries have since moved to area-specific advice for Musandam, Duqm, Salalah and the Yemen border while leaving the rest of the country open.
Domestic security is a separate question. Oman ranks 6th on the Numbeo 2026 mid-year safety index, has no protest culture and a visible, professional police presence. Crime against visitors is rare. The current caution is about airspace and regional escalation, not about walking through Muttrah after dark.
